Haitian Artists Rock at Miami Caribbean Carnival

MIAMI, USA (defend.ht) - On October 9th, 2011, On Point Entertainment and the Party Room Squad participated in the 3rd Annual Miami Broward One Carnival at the SunLife Stadium.
More than 20 masquerade bands paraded in full costume. This year the Party Room Squad represented with the theme of Color of Rhythm, where there costumes detailed the colors of various musical genres; zouk, kompa, salsa, reggea, hip-hop, and rock. On Point Entertainment artists Mecca aka Grimo, Empress Addy, and China Blak rocked the streets during this full day of festivities.
When DH asked On Point Entertainment why they participated in this year’s carnival, Buggah Da Govanah stated “ It’s about claiming our spot in the Caribbean. You don’t have a Haitian band in the carnival? Those days are over, this is a defend Haiti movement by any means”.
The Party Room Squad is the official name of the masquerade band. The theme was chosen because, “ at the end of the day, it’s all about the music”, said Buggah da Govannah. This year the carnival included many bands from various cultures. In Haiti, and in the Haitian diaspora, the music is growing. On Point Entertainment uses arts and culture as mediums to promote education, economic development, non-violence and to encourage voter education. In the Haitian community, Buggah da Govannah stated, “ we gotta teach the next generation to be proud to be Haitian.”
The Miami Broward One Carnival Host Committee produces this cultural event every year for South Florida residents as well as tourists.
