The latest in a series of terribly orchestrated media stunts by Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel was thwarted this afternoon by their former band mate, Lauryn Hill.
The latest in a series of terribly orchestrated media stunts by Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel was thwarted this afternoon by their former band mate, Lauryn Hill.
It was reported by reputable news agencies on Thursday that Lauryn Hill would be reuniting with Wyclef and Pras to form the Fugees for a performance at the inauguration of Michel Martelly, Saturday.
But a representative for Lauryn Hill went to Rumor Fix to set the record straight:
It was recently erroneously reported in the press that Ms. Hill was set to re-unite with The Fugees for an event at the Haitian presidential inauguration on Saturday, May 14th.
This performance announcement was unfortunately false, as Ms. Hill is currently on tour in the U.S. and will be performing in Santa Barbara, California that evening. Any reports to the contrary in the press are incorrect.
Ms. Hill sends her best wishes to her fans in Haiti, and looks forward to having the opportunity to perform there in the future.
The Haitian Times article does not quote any specific person but does mention such details as 'Pras handled the negotiations' for the reunion. The Haiti Press Network was snared by the misinformation as well. The two agencies say they were informed by what they thought to be credible individuals.
This is not the first time that the pair, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel have publicly provided false information to the press.
In the early hours of March 20, election day in Haiti, the two poorly trending artists created a media storm with calls that Wyclef had been shot in Haiti. After a day-long fiasco, those claims were found to be untrue by police investigators who say the artist, Wyclef, was only cut by glass.
Not more than a week ago, a story broke out that Wyclef Jean would be joining the President-elect Michel Martelly on a trip to Suriname. These reports were found to be false as Martelly was meeting with the current President Rene Preval and was traveling the territory of Haiti, on that day the Central Plateau.
The shooting rumor may have brought another 15 minutes of fame to the two cousins, but it was at the expense of the Haitian people's image as many international fans were shocked about the rumored event.
The next rumors are at the expense of the Caribbean and Haitian press, who are working under very difficult circumstances to inform their respective communities.
This latest rumor, that could effect the fan base of Lauryn Hill as she is on tour, makes many wonder to what extent, or to what depths would this pair go for media attention?
