Orchestre Septentrional, Jed Levy Quartet Jazz Night in Cap-Haitien

CAP-HAITIEN, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Orchestre Septentrional of Haiti was invited by the Embassy of the United States in Port-au-Prince to perform in the first part of the Jed Levy Quartet, an American jazz bad on Wednesday at the Cathedral of Cap Haitien.

If the orchestra is best known for dancing Haitians in its tours across the national territory or in the diaspora, one can remember at the time of its founding in 1948, jazz music, fashion in the world, was also its influence on Haitian music. It has inspired the format of the orchestra, like the big band jazz with their lines of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section.

More recently invited to perform in various jazz festivals in the United States and Canada, in July 2010, the Orchestre Septentrional of Haiti included in its repertoire of new songs, popular music from the Haitian and foreign, to which has made arrangements jazzy: Yoyo, Northerners, Agau, etc.. This directory, the Orchestra presented the evening of poetry River to River Festival (NYC, July 2010), which was played on Tuesday for the public in Capois.

It should be noted that since 2008, the Orchestra Music Director is none other than Nikol Levy, pianist who combines his classical training, an excellent knowledge of jazz and a long history of Haitian popular music, in Phase One , System Band or Sakada. It is also the Director of Govi, rasin-jazz group, consisting of a number of musicians Septen, and the composer of the meringue "The Capois" appeared on the last CD of the Orchestra, "Pi Douvan" where "found success" Li dwa gen."

So meringue classical, jazz, konpa new generation, what other band dance music could meet this challenge?
