Arnel Bélizaire Open Letter: "Streets safer with me in Parliament"

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - In an open letter to the people of Haiti, Deputy Arnel Bélizaire requested an apology from President Michel Martelly and expressed content in the fact that the streets are much safer with him in parliament.

My fellow Haitians,
This is Arnel Belizaire, deputy of Delmas and Tabarre. I would like to take this opportunity to address some contentious issues raised recently.
First off, since my famous illegal arrest on October 27 at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, many of my past indiscretions have come to light.
Now, it is true that I have been involved in fraud, car thefts and let’s just say too many other criminal wrongdoings that will fit in this one-page letter. Nonetheless, as a deputy who enjoys parliamentary immunity, I am owed an apology from President Michel Martelly for my unlawful detention.
Secondly, some of you have been be asking, how could an escaped prisoner like me become an elected official? I ask myself the same question. Others have been inquiring, will I resign from my post in light of my past felony convictions? The answer, my friends, is a resounding no.
Here’s why. Arnel Belizaire back on the street is a terrible idea. Plain and simple.
Up until now, the streets have been a lot safer without me terrorizing my fellow citizens. Who knows what type of deplorable acts my illicit friends and I would cook up if I were back on the street unemployed. Assault, extortion, robbery, kidnapping. Even I am frightened by the thoughts of me roaming the streets. Basically what I am trying to say is, I am a very dangerous man and you do not want me to return to my old life. I cannot stress this enough.
To sum up, please tell President Martelly and his friends to apologize and leave Arnel Belizaire alone. It would be wise to keep me visible in the public eye instead of lurking in the shadows and preying on our communities. I trust you will also agree.
Have a safe and prosperous New Year.

Sincerely,
Arnel
