Rayi chen di dan'l blan. This is a Haitian proverb that translates to "hate the dog but tell him his teeth are white."
The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly has put the house on one bet, that every child will have the opportunity to go to school and be fed. For all the deception that politics in general has to offer, this was one area he left no room for reproach, no room for discussion, and chance for appeal. The children will be taught and fed.
I respect a man of lofty ambitions. Martelly is a man of many virtues. Ambitious men, it is we who make the world change. But it is another virtue of the President which is leading him to folly, this is sincerity. The President is too sincere, too straight forward.
So, I disagree with Bishop Louis Kebreau who says Martelly needs to be Sweet Micky, a dictator, or whatever. I kindly ask the father to have a seat on matters of the state.
President Rene Preval did two full terms, he didn't do much but I feel that was his own choice or capability. Preval's secret was he promised these guys in parliament everything, and up until today Preval has yet to deliver on any of it. He promised industries, land, and power. However, neither one of them got it, not even his son-in-law.
For President Michel Martelly, he made the promise to the people. The jury is still out on whether he can deliver but at least we're talking about public education.
